Our Trip To Maui (2016)--Day 12
5/25/2016

Up at the usual time, we were out the door at 8:45, heading toward the Ali`i Kula Lavender Farm. We had reserved a cart tour on our trip two years ago and it was subsequently rained/fogged out. Today, we arrived a half hour before the tour, so we took our free lavender scones and not-free coffee ($2.50/cup) out to the deck which featured nice views of the central valley below.

There were only three of us on this tour; besides me and Patty, there was a lady from Los Angeles. The fog was rolling down Haleakala and soon it started to lightly sprinkle (shit, not again!) so the tour guide gave us umbrellas. Two problems with this--first, we were squeezed somewhat tightly onto this gold cart so the rain rolled off of our umbrellas and onto each other! Second, they didn't work very well. Only ten minutes into what I would consider a somewhat boring tour even if it was sunny, Patty asked to go back. All three of us were in agreement so the tour was nuked.

Back at the office, we received our refund and jumped back in the car for our trip back down toward sea level. The car was stuck! The parking lot is on a fairly steep slops. My back tires were on the blacktop, the front tires in dirt which had turned mucky and slick with the rain. I walked down and found an employee, which happened to be the dude who had ran our aborted tour. After hailing another guy, they pushed us out of the mess. We tipped him $10 for his trouble which he tried to refuse until I tell him "Hey, this is our tour tip!". He then pocketed the cash.

Returning to the hotel, we relaxax. The sun was elusive today and there was no place we felt like shopping. For dinner, we drove up to the Iron Imu in Napili. This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Nice atmosphere, you order at the counter, they bring the food to your table when it's ready. Patty had the 1/4 smoked chicken with cole slaw and Mac & Cheese on the side. She liked this a lot. I ordered the Andouille Sausage with Mac Salad and cole slaw. Cornbread comes with each meal. It was better than Fat Daddy's and a damn sight better than the reviled Beach Bums.
