Our Trip To Maui (2016)--Day 11
5/24/2016

Up early (again), I got to the 9:00 Coffee Break meeting at the Alano Club. It's a good one with about 30 in attendance; ten or more of us are from off the island.

We'd been in the 505 garage since late Monday and it's been a royal pain in the ass trying to find a parking spot. I dropped Patty off for her morning workout and got some sun while she worked out. We headed out on the highway bound for Kihei and Pizza Madness just after 3:30 and southbound traffic is a major cluster bleep. It took nearly an hour to get from Shaw Street to the Lahaina Bypass! I think heading up to Lahainaluna Road and hitting the bypass from there must be quicker.

Pizza Madness was great! The service was a bit serious; our waitress didn't smile until I told her how much we liked the pizza. We got the Meat Pizza which had sausage, pepperoni, bacon and ham. Big chunks of ham on this thing. Patty thought it tasted somewhat like Pizza Hut, but I didn't recognize anything close to a resemblance. It's a 12-piece pie so there are some nice leftovers for tomorrow!

Happy couple on the beach!

I hadn't reviewed this room yet in detail, so here goes. Keep in mind some of this will be in terms of comparing it to how the room was when we were last here two years ago:

  • There is a walk-in closet when you first enter, but the space has been reduced somewhat by the owner. Not a problem; there is still enough space to stand up our three luggage pieces inside. There is also plenty of hangers for our shirts and such. An ironing board with an iron is inside. Laundry soap has been supplied.

  • The bathroom is oriented differently. You used to walk in and face the sink, with the toilet to the right and the bath/shower to the left. The shower is still to the left but now is only a shower--a large walk-in shower. It's a beauty! Plenty of room to stand--two people can easily shower at the same time, if that's your type of thing. :) Very large shower head, with two hooks on the back wall to hang bath towels. There is a small bench for a handicapped person to sit and shower--the shower head is connected to a fairly lengthy hose which can be pulled to the bench. Nice.

The toilet is in a separate area and faces to the right. On the right side of this totally renovated bathroom is a sink, mirror and eight drawers for storing toiletries and such. To the left of the sink is a cabinet where Chase N Rainbows had placed additional towels, hand towels and washcloths. Underneath the sink is where they stored toilet paper (four rolls) and an additional box of Kleenex.

  • Just past the walk-in closet is a large, very nice refrigerator/freezer with an ice and water dispenser. It's a lot like ours at home but the cubes are smaller. Still a great feature.

  • Marble counter tops throughout, in the bathroom, kitchen and living area.

  • In the kitchen, the sink is now in the center island and is larger than the old sink. A dish drain is provided, as is dish soap. The toaster works reasonably well but on occasion doesn't lock when you press the lever down. There is a 10-cup coffee pot to the right of a nice new stove (which we never used). A microwave is mounted above the stove. We did use this appliance quite a bit and it works very well. Plenty of cabinets in the kitchen which hold coffee cups, glasses, silverware and various kitchen utensils. One empty cabinet works well for storing groceries. Cabinets under the countertop have a nice assortment of kitchen tools, plates and bowls. There are two trash cans contained in a slide-out cabinet.

This kitchen is equipped extremely well and appointed equally well.

  • Two bar stools next to the center island for seating are a nice feature.

  • There is a breakfast nook with a table and padded benches on either side of the table residing just past the refrigerator. It would have been my "home base" for working on my Netbook but there are no plug-ins nearby, plus the table surface is too smooth for a computer mouse to function properly.

  • The king-sized bed is nice and we slept well in it but you can tell it isn't built to last for many years. There is a long desk on the wall opposite the bed with a 42" Smart TV (a Visio). This allowed us to watch Netflix, Youtube videos, etc. It appears to be the same TV which was here in 2014.

  • The lanai is appointed similarly to before. Drapes to block out the afternoon sun are installed in case you want to take a mid-day snooze.

Our overall assessment? This is easily the best of seven different rooms we've stayed at in this resort, and certainly brings the best bang for our dollar. But the new rate of $295/night makes us pause when considering a future stay.
