Our Trip to Maui (2012)--Day 15

Sea House

Patty woke me up at 6:30 and we headed out the door by 7:00, bound for breakfast at the Sea House in Napili. Two years ago, an otherwise very enjoyable breakfast was marred by extremely slow service. I wanted to give this place, an alternative to the Gazebo restaurant at the other end of Napili Bay, a second chance.

I was glad we did. The service was excellent this time, as was the food—at least, for me. Patty was disappointed with her blueberry pancakes, but enjoyed the bacon. I had the All-American breakfast, with two eggs (over easy, in my case), toast, country potatoes, Portuguese sausage, and POG. The cost was a little high ($34) but well worth it, in my opinion.

It was raining in Napili so we canceled our plans to drive up to the north coast and take pictures. Back to Lahaina for a quick nap and then hit the beach for our morning walk.

After that, we basically did nothing but lie around all day. I didn’t feel like tanning, but we both felt like napping! And that’s what we did. Woke up at 2 p.m., took a shower, watched part of a movie, and then drove down to the Shops at Wailea where we had 6:30 reservations at Tommy Bahamas.

This was another wonderful dining experience for us. While we were inside, the atmosphere still felt wide open. We were seated at a comfortable booth and attended to by three different staff. At one point, a guy who I think was the manager came over to ask how we were enjoying our food. He talked about how the lettuce on the salad came from an upcountry farm. “Kula?” I asked, and he concurred. They are trying to do more business with island farms, helping to sustain the local economy. Not to mention that buying locally ensured better freshness in the product. Exactly the philosophy of James McDonald, owner of Pacific`o and I`o.

Patty had the seafood bisque soup and a salad. I had the Caesar Salad and Jerk Chicken. For dessert, we shared homemade butterscotch pudding. It was all well-made and delicious.

Back to the hotel well after dark, we relaxed in the room until bedtime.
