Our Trip to Maui (2012)--Day 16

After a quick breakfast, we hit the beach for our usual walk which lasted just over an hour. Then it was in the car and up to the north coast to see if the weather conditions will allow picture taking. The weather is nearly as perfect as it can be up here, mostly sunny and very nice with a fairly strong breeze in places. I found some excellent vantage points and turned my D90 loose on those places. After that, we hit McDonald’s in the Kahana Gateway Center for a quick lunch before returning to the room. We closed out our safe deposit box and chatted with Allison a bit. Patty took a nap and I hit the sun for over an hour and a half. We decided to make reservations at Stella Blues for tonight.

Stella Blues is a place which lives on—reputation? Actually, I have no idea what attracts people to this place. Stella Blues features a nice atmosphere, to be sure, and dining there after dark can be a rather intimate experience. If you’re seated inside, that is. The food is average, the service was rather stuffy and not very friendly; let's say the service was "functional". The price was right--for Maui. Patty had a salad and enjoyed it quite a bit. My Jambalaya was okay but "under-powered". I don't need my Jambalaya to melt my face off, but I want to know I'm eating Jambalaya. There wasn't nearly enough heat, and there was something not quite right in the taste of the chicken. Not necessarily spoiled, it just didn't have a good flavor. So, now we can say we've had dinner there with no plans to return in the future.

After yet another after-dark drive back to the hotel, it was hot tub time. Met two chaperones of a large group of primarily Oriental kids which had basically taken over the pool earlier in the day, ignoring certain rules, rough-housing, tossing each other into the pool. I’m hoping they don’t stay long but since we’re only here for three more nights, does it really matter? [Footnote: After this initial negative impression, the group was extremely well behaved for the remaining few days we saw them]
