Our Trip To Maui (2018)--Day 10
5/14/2018

The day started out mellow, there was no early morning walk so I headed over to the Alano Club for their 10 a.m. meeting, and it was another good one.

Patty wasn't in the room when I return, so I figured she went out shopping somewhere. I decided to get some tanning in and discoverd she was already on the lawn! She had been out there for a while and headed back to the room ten minutes after I joined her. Today's tanning session got cut short after only 30 minutes--the heat was on today! After enjoying leftover Flatbread pizza for lunch, we hung out in the room most of the afternoon.

Tonight's dinner destination was Da Kitchen in Kahului. We're no strangers to this restaurant, having dined here three times in the past. But something wonderfully sinful is awaiting me on this trip, which I'll explain.

Notorious BIG Moco

Chinese Chicken Salad

The dish starts with fried rice (much better than regular rice!), with diced Spam mixed in. Then comes the hamburger patty, which I believe is 10 ounces but may be larger. Two over-easy eggs reside on top of this, with sauteed onions and mushrooms. Then you add chili (with beans) on top, and sliced Spam and bacon completing the topping. Cheese is also in this (but I didn't notice this much), and four slices of Portuguese Sausage are splaced around the outside of this massive concoction.

They call this the Notorious BIG Moco.

I first learned of this watching Diners, Drive-ins & Dives (Soaking Up Maui episode) and was definitely intrigued by its preparation. Simple put, it looked damn tasty! The server told me the entire dish weighs four pounds. I lift the big bowl it's served in and it certainly feels that heavy. They also have the Notorious BIG Challenge, where you receive a free T-shirt--if you can complete this bad boy in a half hour or less! I was also told that this is going to be on an episode of Man v Food. I couldn't wait to see this!

Meanwhile, Patty ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad and loves her item as I love my Moco.

While eating, we engaged in conversation with a couple sitting to my right. When the server told them about the Loco Moco, I offered up that it's an excellent dish, so he ordered it. I'm not sure what she ordered. Anyway, we talked about this restaurant, our families, what we do for a living (he's an accountant working for a bank and they live north of Las Vegas), housing prices, climate, all kinds of things. It was probably the most enjoyable conversation we've had while on Maui--and there have been several fruitful talks we're shared with other visitors while on island. It's a big part of our experience and one of the reasons we love coming here.

One more trip to Walmart! After securing what we hope will last us until we leave in ten days, we returned to the hotel, Patty headed out for her Alanon meeting while I chilled out in the room.
