Hearts in Hawai'i

Our Trip To Maui (2018)--Day 9
5/13/2018

Our initial plan today was to hike the Kapaula Coastal Trail, but since we encountered light sprinkles by the time we hit Napili, we decided to forego this. Besides, beaches and beach paths on Maui tend to get extremely crowded on weekends, for obvious reasons. So we returned to Lahaina where I took off on foot with my camera, getting some nice beach shots, ending up at Lahaina Harbor. There is live music by the banyan tree and I found out there is a Mele festival this weekend with acts such as Robi Kahakalau, Ho`okena and Waipuna. These would have been great acts to watch! But we already had plans and didn't want to change them.

What was the only thing I accomplished this afternoon? Taking a shower! At 3:00 we headed out for another drive to Paia with Flatbread Company being our dinner destination. We knew about the buzz over their Mopsy Pizza from Trip Advisor reviews and Youtube and wanted to give this pizza a try.

We weren't disappointed--in fact, this pizza was incredible! They start the pizza off with Mango BBQ sauce, then add Mozzarella cheese, Kalua pork, Maui onions, pineapple and Surfing Goat dairy cheese. It's done in such a way that each bit tastes a little different than the last bite. You get the saltiness of the pork, then the sweetness of the pineapple, the crunch of the Maui onions and then this indescribable flavor of the goat cheese. It's different and wonderful. Patty says it's the best pizza she ever had. I tend to agree that it's the best pizza I've had on Hawai`i, but debatable as to whether it's the best I've had anywhere. This place is well worth the pain in the ass which parking in this town presents.

Enjoying another nice drive back to Lahaina, I find myself wondering how to get pictures from the Lahaina Bypass. There are no places where it's legal to just pull over and get out of your vehicle. There are some unobstructed views of the West Maui Mountains from the Bypass and I want those shots! I suppose I could park at Launiupoko park and hike up the connecting road to the bypass.

Back in Lahaina, we hit Front Street again. I've only bought three T-shirts so far and am in need of more! We scoured all the shops we could find featuring this type of clothing and by the time we finished, I had added three more shirts to my collection. The day ended with more conversation in the hot tub with folks from Texas, Philadelphia and Wisconsin. Another perfect day!
