Hearts in Hawai'i

Our Trip To Maui (2018)--Day 7
5/11/2018

Today featured two milestones of sorts--my father was born 103 years ago, and it's also the seventh anniversary of my heart attack. For what it's worth.

We started the day with a great Front Street walk, getting as far as the Lahaina Roads hotel before returning. This took us over an hour and a quarter and I burned off a ton of calories (802 to be exact, but who's counting? Other than my Polar heart monitor, that is) It was Domestic Day, which means laundry needed to be done. There are two washers and two driers on each floor here at Lahaina Shores, and they now accept credit cards; no longer any need to mess around with all those quarters! It's $2.50 for the washer, same for the drier. After we finished this required task, Patty hit the sun while I took a short nap--the air here is so conducive to relaxation and sleeping!

At 4 p.m. we drove to Aloha Mixed Plate, located near the Old Lahaina Luau. We had been here once before, in 2009, and were decidedly underwhelmed by that experience. However, the was recently renovated and we wanted to give them another try.

We're glad we did. While we weren't able to secure seating at the oceanview railing, we had a nice table covered with an umbrella. As for the food, we were more than impressed. Starting with the Filipino Adobo Wings, which were very tasty with a nice crunch to them, Patty then chose the Chinese Chicken Salad, a sizable serving of excellence, while I, after much consideration, went for the Shoyu Chicken. This dish comes with the traditional plate lunch accompaniment of two scoops of rice and a scoop of mac salad. Plate lunches are hugely popular in Hawai`i, and Aloha Mixed Plate features some of the best ones.

Overall, we were very happy with our decision to forego Captain Jack's Island Grill and give Aloha Mixed Plate a chance to "vindicate" themselves after our previous experience. We would absolutely return here in the future.

And that was pretty much all that happened today. Back to the room, Patty walked over to the Alano Club for a meeting, and I vegged out, crashing by 9:30.
