Hearts in Hawai'i

Our Trip to Maui (2012)--Day 8
4/29/2012

A Day Of Rest

Up before 7:00, we walked for over an hour on the beach. We enjoyed a wonderful day of relaxation today; the weather was mostly cloudy in the morning before clearing up some in the afternoon. Laid out for maybe an hour and a half--when the sun came out it felt scorchingly hot. I think I’m feeling the effects of so much sun yesterday during our Molokini snorkel trip. In the midst of this, I noticed several people walking over to the hedges and looking out at the ocean, a few with cameras. Getting off my lawn chair to investigate, I noticed a pod of whales no more than 100 yards past the reef heading toward the north! A guy I spoke with stated that they had been going back and forth since 8:30 this morning. Very cool.

Patty did some walking in the late afternoon, all the way to Bubba Gumps and then back to the hotel twice. We figured it came out to about three miles. I tried to sleep and managed to get a half hour or so.

Kimo's

Tonight we had dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant, Kimo’s, at 6:15. We didn't get seated until about 6:45 due to our request for a table alongside the railing, so we kicked back and waited at the bar. The sun was just setting as we were led upstairs to our table. It turned out to be as good a meal as we’ve ever had in Hawai`i. Service by our waiter, Sean, was perfect. In the time we took to eat, the sky went from sunset to pitch black. It's amazing how quickly it gets black once he sun goes down here, I think it’s due to Hawai`i’s proximity to the equator.

Our meals were also perfect. They started by bringing a basket of bread rolls and carrot muffins. I woofed down two and a half muffins, being the pig I am. The Caesar Salad was equally tasty but seems smaller than it has in the past. They cooked my Teriyaki Sirloin just right (medium well), coming with mashed potatoes. Patty equally enjoyed her Kushiyaki, which was comprised of steak, chicken, squash, pineapple, onions and peppers. For dessert we scored a free Hula Pie after explaining to Sean that Patty’s birthday isn’t today but was yesterday, and we couldn’t make it last night due to Hapa, etc. etc. A group of wait staff came over with the Pie and sang Happy Birthday to Patty. Cute!

We were totally stuffed and happy by the time we left. We hit the sack relatively early but I was awoke after 11:30 by idiots yelling in the ocean.
