Maui Swap Meet

Patty turned 50 today. How cool was that, celebrating such a milestone on Maui? We were up and at ‘em and out the door just after 7:00, bound for the Maui Swap Meet which is held each Saturday at the Maui Community College up in Kahului. It’s rather like the Aloha Swap Meet at Aloha Stadium, only seemingly better organized. Quite a bit smaller, also. I located a T-shirt for $5, bright gold in color with "Maui" enblazoned across the front. Nothing fancy, but the color attracted me. Also tried Samosas for the first time, which is a fried pastry with potato, onion, meat and spices inside. Outstanding! I had a beef samosa, Patty got a chicken one. We worked our way through everything they had in just over an hour, and it was back to Lahaina. Patty was tired, so she napped while I caught a couple hours out in the sun.

Fat Daddy's Smokehouse BBQ

Dinner tonight was at Fat Daddy’s Smokehouse BBQ in Kihei. We’ve been here twice previously, and on this visit, I was not very impressed. For $31, we each had a Fat Plate; Patty had the Ribs, I had the Brats. Their service rating took a hit when the waitress brought our bill to us while I was still eating. A faux pas, in my opinion. We are hoping that Beach Bums will turn out to be better when we go there later this week.

Hapa

Speaking of restaurants, Patty was very impressed by what she saw at Stella Blues, and now she wants to eat there. We’re considering which restaurant we want to replace with Stella Blues—probably Tommy Bahamas or Three’s Bar & Grill.

But we weren’t there for the food. We were there for Hapa. I didn’t recognize Barry Flanagan when he walked by, due to his hair being bleached. He had an ice pack on his upper spine, suggesting that he had some spinal ailment or had some procedure done recently. I didn’t feel like asking him about it, of course.

The show they put on, for an hour and a half, was a real treat to hear. Barry is a very accomplished guitarist and we appreciated his telling a brief story before launching into each song. I preferred Hapa to Jack Johnson. Patty liked Jack better.

Another late night, back to the hotel at 10:00.
