Our Caribbean Cruise (2011)--Day 8
4/24/2011

Easter Sunday came and found us in Panama! Got off the ship 45 minutes before our tour started and did some quick shopping--found a Panama t-shirt for $10, bought a second one for Patty which only cost an extra six bucks. A nice deal!

We had a great time on this tour, which took us by van to the locks on the Caribbean side of Gatun Lake. There are three platforms to watch ships passing through the Canal--the top platform was jammed with people who refused to move their keisters and give someone else a chance to step up and take pictures, so we ended up on the middle platform which turned out to be a decent vantage point. As always, it was hot outside! Upper 80's with high humidity. The bus stopped along the way at the driver spotted a sloth, and later on stopped again so we could check out a group of howler monkeys. All and all, this was quite the enjoyable tour and money well spent.

Back on the ship, the Windjammer filled up quickly for lunch. As I said earlier, breakfast is by far the best meal of the day with two kinds of sausage to go along with bacon, pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, corn beef hash, etc. Beverages offered are milk and different types of juice. There are also made-to-order omelettes stuffed with up to six items of your choice; ham, bacon, onion, peppers, mushrooms, cheese. Very tasty!

Lunch and dinner are less predictable and, in my mind, not nearly as good. However, the gravy they serve with their mashed potatoes is wonderful and they have had a few good pasta and chicken choices. The rest is mostly forgettable.
