Hearts in Hawai'i

Our Trip to Hawai'i (2010)--Day 14
5/1/2010

It's May 1 and my eighth smokefree birthday today! Patty took me to Lahaina Pizza Company, formerly BJ's Chicago Pizzeria, for dinner tonight. Today's breakfast was at the Pioneer Inn, a solid breakfast decision featuring decent food and good prices. The two-egg special with country potatoes and Portugese sausage was very filling. Patty had two pancakes with a side order of bacon. Total price with tip was only $22, an outstanding value by Maui standards. Tanning today was interrupted after an hour by clouds rolling in. We haven't had the best weather during this trip.

We have new neighbors in Room 607, a group of young people yakking loudly on their lanai most of the afternoon. Hopefully this won't be a pattern.

Lahaina Pizza Company

The pizza at Lahaina Pizza Company was still fairly good but we agree the quality has suffered since the change in name. It seems they are skimping on their toppings somewhat. As usual, we requested they hold the stewed tomatoes and substitute additional sauce, but the sauce was also lacking in amount. I asked the waitress how many people make that request and she claims only one or two a day. Got into a discussion about Maui Revealed--she wasn't aware the book was updated two years ago. I tend to steer clear from discussion with locals about that book, considering how it's disliked by many in the community. She also told us that a customer had written Andrew Doughty to tell him to take out the part about No Tomatoes/Extra Sauce being recommended. Well, that's stupid. It's his book and if he wants to recommend something, that's his choice and a choice we happen to agree with.

No hot tub tonight--in fact, I've only been in it one night since we arrived. Not sure why. Sleep by 10:30.
