While Mesaba Avenue was being rebuilt, I took this opportunity to get this shot of Superior Street, looking east from Mesaba Avenue
US Bank on the site which formerly held Glass Block department store
Old Central High School with its iconic clock tower which (last time I checked!) still chimes every quarter hour
The Palladio Building was here--it was the site of KDLH television. Maurices Tower now stands here
Looking east from the downtown Skywalk, you can see a large parking ramp, since closed and demolished
Missabe Building
Board of Trade Building--at one time a financial hub in Duluth, later a shell of its former self but home to my favorite downtown coffee shop (The Exchange!). Now converted into apartments
Walkway from Lake Avenue to Lake Place
Start of the Northwest Passage of the Downtown Skywalk connecting downtown to the DECC and Amsoil Arena
Skywalk entering the Government Services Center from the east.
Radisson Duluth hotel, built in 1970
The Depot on W. Michigan St.
Bagley & Co., closed in 2016 after a 131 year run
At one time, the home of Wahl's Department store
Duluth Technology Village. I'd have no reason whatsoever to visit that building if not for Pizza Luce!
This used to be Sears Department Store, now the site of an entity designed to take your money in the disguise of fun
Greysolon Plaza, previously known as the Hotel Duluth
Another building which fell to the wrecking ball in 2022. The Chinese Dragon had been on our list of restaurants to try--too bad we never got there!
Woolworth's was here for several decades, closing in 1982
And next door to Woolworth's, this was once Jupiter Discount Store (SS Kresge before that). My first job was here from 1974-79!
Not many retail places remain on Superior Street. Mainstream is one of them!
Wells Fargo was here until it closed on 12/3/2025
Short Elliott Hendrickson is now in the location of what was once Duluth Business University, which I attended in the late 70's. DBU later moved to the west, had their accreditation revoked by the US Dept. Of Education, and then closed in 2018. Sad to see it go.
