Swedish Pancakes But No Goats (yet)!

Sleeping wasn’t easy due to the lack of a fan in the bedroom--we miss that white noise!--but the overhead ceiling fan helped keep me cool which helped a bit. I awoke at 5:50 and told Patty I was going to sleep in for an hour. Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant in in Sister Bay would open at 7 a.m. and we wanted to get there by their opening—this is a very popular place where wait times could be troublesome if we got there late. I relented and hit the shower. We got to Sister Bay and Al Johnson's by 7:10 and were immediately seated at a nice window-side table.

Swedish pancakes are interesting. They’re quite thin and there were three of them in my order of the Swedish Pancake Special. Topped with Lingonberries, they have a taste slightly like blueberries. They’re good but I prefer regular ‘ole pancakes. With these cakes came two eggs over easy and three sausages. The eggs and sausages were great. Patty had the oatmeal with bacon and enjoyed her breakfast. We were seated alongside very large windows with a view of the road and Lake Michigan close by. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Price pre-tip was $34 which Patty paid for. She told me before the trip that she would pay for food and restaurants as a retirement present, albeit three years late!

Getting there when we did was fortunate as the place filled up quickly and there was a rather long line awaiting tables by the time we left!

After finishing there we walked around the marina and park which was across the street, taking some pictures and enjoying the morning air. We got back to the resort around 8:45, dropping off the car and walking down to the shops on the main road, checking out the Main Street Shops. About the only thing open was Buttercups Coffee where I enjoyed a Mocha. A replay of Super Bowl I was on and I chatted with the owner a bit while watching the game. He, like nearly everyone here, is a huge Packers fan. Blech.

We decided to return to the shops as they didn’t open until 10:00 and we didn’t want to sit and wait. Back to the room for a quick nap, lunch which was Pizza Bros leftovers and then we walked back to the shops, finding a couple T-shirts for $28. A good deal! Harbor View Park is nice with tons of boats at the marina and some decent photo opportunities. By the time we got back to the Newport, my legs were shot! We would walk 3.5 miles this day.

Discussion on where to eat eventually pointed us to Mojo Rosas next to the Main Street Market and we thorougly enjoyed this place. Patty ordered a 14” sausage and pepperoni pizza while I opted for a large burger called The Meats with ground beef, barbacoa beef and bacon. It was one of the best burgers I’d ever had. On the side was chili, also good but not in the same league as several versions of chili, Instant Pot and otherwise, I make at home.

Back at the room, Patty hit the hot tub while I relaxed in the room, enjoying a fairly long phone conversation with a good friend—Patty came back to the room and went to bed during the conversation. I stayed up until 11:30.
