Our Trip To Maui (2016)--Day 18
5/31/2016

Early mornings before 7 a.m. are the best time here, being out on the lanai with coffee, Patty at the fitness center. Trade winds returned and were on the strong side today, blowing some showers over to the leeward side of Maui.

After Patty finishes with her workout, we visited the north shore of Maui with the goal of getting to Kanaha Beach to see some windsurfing, and then proceed to Baldwin and Ho`okipa Beaches. This didn't pan out--it started sprinkling, then raining, then pouring by the time we get near Kahului. We headed back south on highway 380, then proceed to Kihei on the South Kihei Road. We ended up at our wedding spot on a hill alongside the Four Seasons Resort in Wailea. From there we continued south to Po`olenalena Beach and finally to Makena Beach. This was our first time at Makena. What a beach! With great sand and surf, this long and wide beach is one not to be missed. Fabulous place.

On our way back to Lahaina, we "had" to stop at Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop in Olowalu, a very popular place for pies, burgers, sandwiches and other various items. Patty ordered a hot dog, I git a pastrami & swiss sandwich. The sandwiches here take a back seat to nobody and are reasonably priced--by Maui standards, of course! The place was packed, very busy despite it only being 11 a.m.

Cloudy skies and light sprinkles awaited us upon our return to Lahaina. We turned in our parking card and get a sticker to get back into the 505 garage. The company which was charged with work on the lot last week screwed up the job, so they needed to return today and re-do their work....hopefully correctly, this time. As a result, we'd need to keep our car in the garage until we leave Maui on Thursday.

We napped the afternoon away, got up, cleaned up and drove to Kihei and Stewz Maui Burgers at 5:00. The burgers here were pretty good, but we prefer Teddy's--those are equally good and cheaper. At Stewz, you order at the counter and then pick up your order when it's ready. Only outside tables exist here, but it's a fairly nice atmosphere in which to munch a simple meal. We checked out the Kukui Mall when we're done, running into a guy walking his English Bulldog; we chatted with him for a few minutes. Our dinner mission accomplished, we returned to Lahaina

One did (probably) one final hot tub visit that evening, and we found the owners of room 205 there. They live in Honokowai and have owned here for ten years. We talked about the renovations and noise from two nearby rooms--513 and 506, and learned that owners are prohibited from doing renovations during high season (December to April, I believe). It's something for us to consider next time we come here are the daytime noise can be a pain in the okole if we're trying to take an afternoon nap.
