Our Trip To Maui (2016)--Day 7
5/20/2016

After a somewhat restless night of sleep, Patty and I were both up by 5:30. After making coffee and my customary peanut butter toast, I brought the Netbook out on the lanai so I could catch up on the journal.

The weather has been nearly perfect, clear to partly cloud every day since our arrival, high temps in the mid-80's, moderate trade winds blowing each day. Because of the trade winds, the humidity has been low so the actual temperature is cooler than what would normally be indicated. It's been perfect for walking the beach in the morning, perfect for activities, perfect for just lying out in the sun and doing nothing. So far, this has been the best weather we've seen here since probably 2008.

There were no real plans for today--Patty had her fitness center thing, I thought about grabbing the Big Camera (the Nikon D7100) and heading over to Lahaina Harbor for some pictures. Hiking is planned at some point but not until Sunday when we're thinking of trying the Lahaina Pali Trail. This will be a tough hike and it's likely we won't reach the windmill farm, basically the halfway point of this hike which eventually leads to its terminus on the west side of the island. My knees and the weight I've gained over the past year may dictate an early turnaround and point us toward a Kapalua Village hike rather than the Lahaina Pali or the Waihee Ridge Trail we've also wanted to do.

Kimo's is our dinner plan tonight with a 6:45 reservation made. Of course, we will be requesting a rail-side table so we may not be seated immediately. Those tables are much sought after! But it's worth the wait for sunset viewing and overall ambience.

Arriving at 6:30, we told the hostess we'd like a rail-side table so she gave us a beeper and said one would be available but wasn't sure when. So we headed to the bar and conversed with a couple; she's originally from Minneapolis but they've lived her for 30 years. Two spots open up at the bar so they sat, ending our short chat. We retreated toward the front entrance and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally the beeper went off and the hostess led us upstairs to our table. It's on the rail but not in a spot I particularly like as it's between two sections, one which extends outward thirty feet or so. It cut down considerably on our ocean view. Our waiter, Ronnie, did a very good job (nearly the entire staff here is top-notch), explaining the fish which are available and how they are prepared. I considered the monjong but decided on the Kushiyaki. This was a mistake. The steak was very fatty--other than that, it was as good as I remember it being two years ago. The carrot muffins and Caesar Salad were excellent. After debating on whether to get the Hula Pie for dessert, we passed.

Still, we've had eight outstanding dining experiences here of the ten times we have visited Kimo's, so it's still one of our favorite Hawaiian restaurants.

Back to the room, TV as usual. Out by 10:30.
