Our Trip To Maui (2016)--Day 3
5/16/2016

We were up at 4 a.m. as expected. My body was still stuck on Central Daylight Time, so it thought it was already 9 a.m.! Patty showered while I updated things on the Netbook. We headed off to the Pioneer Inn for our traditional First Morning Breakfast, as we've done on our past several Maui trips. Patty got her customary oatmeal, and I had the three-egg omelette with Portuguese Sausage, onions and pepper jack cheese. Very good, as always. There was a caged bird closely nearby who would let out this loud screeching chirp from time to time. It sounded rather like the blast we hear when we check our smoke detector. Annoying as hell, especially when you're not expecting it. Or trying to enjoy a quiet breakfast after being on planes for ten hours the day before. We found out it was his way of telling his "owners" he was hungry--once he got some food, he was fine. There was also a dog wandering through the bar/restaurant, a retriever named Coach. He got fed some treats and then crashed out on the floor nearby the kitchen.

We drove to K Mart in Kahului after breakfast--I needed Miralax and Patty wanted to buy a floatee. Looked around for a tripod but the only ones they had were cheap looking tabletop types. Shopping completed, we returned to Lahaina where I dropped Patty off at Island Fitness. She purchased a one-month pass with the intention of working out here each morning. To my eyes, it's a rather scummy looking place, but Patty liked it just fine and that's what counts since she's going there and I'm not!

She didn't get back to the room until 12:30 p.m.

Feeling the effects of yesterday's flights and the five-hour time zone change, we napped for a few hours in the afternoon. The weather was beautiful when we awoke, sunny with trade winds and temps again in the 80's. We walked down Front Street to Bubba Gump Shrimp Company at 5:15.

As is usual with Bubba Gump's, we enjoyed a delicious meal, starting with the Coconut Shrimp appetizer--Patty then had the Pear & Berry Salad with shrimp. I asked the waitress to help me decide between the Jambalaya and Lt. Dan's Drunken Shrimp (which I've had twice in the past). She chose the Drunken Shrimp without hesitation. Good choice, while I already knew that. After getting stuffed, we wandered up near Foodland, located 808 Grindz Cafe and found Pi Artesan Pizza near Ruth Chris Steak House. Did some T-shirt shopping, and then retired to the hotel for TV and rest for the remainder of the evening.
