Our Trip to Maui (2014)--Day 12
5/16/2014

Now at the halfway point of our trip, we have just one more (paid) activity to look forward to, and that was tonight's cocktail cruise on the Paragon. We have done several of these in the past, and they have always been on a Pacific Whale Foundation vessel. With the PWF no longer doing cocktail cruises from Lahaina, we thought it was time to check out other companies and see what they had to offer. Gemini, Trilogy, Paragon, Kaulana and Teralani were all considered. In the end, we wanted to sail from Lahaina since it's a ten minute walk from the hotel, so it came down to Kaulana or Paragon. We saw both boats--the Kaulana was bigger but didn't look like anything we'd want to set foot on. Comparing the pupus on the two boats tipped our decision toward Paragon. Remy helped solidify that decision.

Paragon is a smaller vessel, with a maximum capacity of 24. I didn't do a head count, but I think we had roughly 20 people with us on this cruise. They ran pretty much a standard route for a cocktail cruise from Lahaina--out, north towards Ka`anapali, return.

The pupus were great--I'm still salivating over the spring rolls they had! The chicken was likewise outstanding. Free pop was included. I can't speak of the alcoholic drinks since neither of us imbibes.

It was a great cruise on a nice Friday early evening, and to cap the tour off, we saw three whales!
