The Move--Nov. 11
11/11/2010

Here we are, with everything finally moved in! Well, almost everything. There are still a few items sprinkled about the apartment we vacated, and some serious cleaning to be done. But after four and a half hours, the gentlemen from Lakeside Transfer have finished moving the last of our big stuff into our house and are on their way with several hundred dollars in their pockets. This was the second time we've used Lakeside Transfer to move our belongings, and we recommend them without hesitation.

Moving the furniture out wasn't necessarily easy for these guys. With my help, we had to turn the couch over four different ways before finally finding a way to work it around the 90 degree right turn leading into from the living room into the hallway, followed by another 90 degree left turn into the stairwell. I knew we could move the couch out since it had been moved in the same way...it was just a matter of remembering how the hell the guys from Anderson Furniture got that damn thing in here last year!

That big-assed entertainment center, a 60x60x24 monster weighing 200 lbs without the shelves inserted, was actually easier, once they figured out that turning it 180 degrees as the bottom of the first set of stairs and starting to descend the second set of stairs resulted in the center being pointed straight at the exterior doorway. But man, the bulkiness of the unit taxed their strength severely.

Eventually they arrived at our house in Proctor, delivering our goods. Moving the furniture in was much easier with no tight corners to navigate. The guys were grateful for that.

We can finally relax. Every concern, every worry, every moment of uncertainty we've shared over the past six weeks is now behind us. There is still much work to be done, to be sure; many more boxes to unpack, pictures to hang (happily, not my job as I have no eye for that stuff and Julie will be helping Patty, anyway), a couple more appliances to buy and have installed. But we're here!! Tonight will be our first night in our first house. We both took tomorrow off from work; with today being Veterans' Day (a government holiday), we have a four-day weekend to unpack, sort, organize and basically get used to our home. Sweet!
