Our Trip to Maui (2009)--Day 8

Sitting on the lanai in the morning with a cup of coffee--yeah, this works

Meeting Time

As some of you who have been following this site know, I'm in A.A. Have been since 1982. I won't go into detail about my experience, because this trip blog is about a trip. But...I realized that I was having a hard time relaxing during our first week here. It usually takes a day or so for my brain to slow down to the point where I can "Feel Aloha", kick back and just relax, but it wasn't happening this time. A meeting might just do the trick.

The Lahaina Alano Club is quite the place. A cat named Serenity wanders around, checking people out, a very loud chicken is constantly yakking next door, you feel a breeze throughout, and - well, this is different from any meeting location I've experienced in Duluth, that's for sure. But it's still A.A. People are struggling, succeeding, hurting, laughing, all that stuff. I felt an instant connection to these good folks, and an hour later, I was rejuvenated.

Penne Pasta Cafe

It was hot out in the sun today; the pool had thankfully reopened. After the usual routine, we headed out on foot onto Front Street foot with no clear idea where we want to eat dinner. Eventually we ended up at Penne Pasta Cafe on Dickenson Street. No atmosphere here (no view), and it's a place where you go to the counter, order your food and then find a table and wait. I got the Chicken Parmigiana on top of spaghetti, Patty had the spaghetti and meatballs, plus we split a personal pizza with salami, sausage, tomato and mozzarella. Based on the food quality and quantity versus price, it was a pretty decent deal.

After dinner, we walked around Front Street, eventually ending up at Kimo's for a drink, witnessing a very pretty sunset.
