A Birthday To Celebrate

Crap, I'm 50 today! I'm not sure how to feel about this, either; in some ways I don't feel 50, and in other ways (when that disk in my back is acting up), I feel quite a bit older. I spent the morning laying out in the sun and reflecting on the past year and where I'm standing in various areas, and the thought kept returning that the older I get, the faster time goes. When we're very young and people say that life is short, we chuckle and brush the comment off. Later on in life (if we're lucky), we understand the statement fully. I know I certainly do.

Kimo's

Enough philosophical garbage; as a birthday treat, we returned to Kimo's restaurant on Front Street for dinner. We make it a point to come here for dinner whenever we visit Maui. Kimo's is a special place for us, being where we ate dinner on our wedding night in 1996. It's still the same Kimo's with the same awesome sunset views. We were lucky enough to have a table right on the railing, overlooking the ocean. The setting of the sun and the lighting of the tiki torches were the backdrop to what normally would have been a nearly perfect evening. The only downside tonight was the quality of the food. My Polynesian Chicken was good, make no mistake, but it wasn't up to the quality I'd come to expect from Kimo's. Service was good. Overall, this is still one of our favorite restaurants (free Hula Pie due to it being my birthday helped somewhat), but it's been better in the past.

Some shopping and a relaxing followed dinner. The usual nightly trip to the hot tub visit capped off another great day, as they all seem to be here.
