Hearts in Hawai'i

Our Trip to Hawai'i (2007)--Day 21
5/13/2007

Spoke with the desk clerk this morning regarding the Lahaina Shores smoking policy; he confirmed my suspicion that the policy is up to each unit's owner. He did say, however, that they're working on a solution to this, as others have complained about the cigarette smell. The solution is obvious to me, but you'll never get smokers to agree!

Up to Lahainaluna to take pics but had to make it a quick stop as Patty has "scheduled" us to do one final load of laundry this morning. After completing this small task, I hit the sun for close to three hours. My forehead is getting cooked again so had to shield it while baking other parts of me. Hey, tanning is part art, part science, part idiocy.

Manute`a Cocktail Cruise

Tonight we did one final activity (actually, it was our only paid activity on Maui); the cocktail sunset tour on the catamaran Manute`a, which is owned and operated by the Pacific Whale Foundation. We'd done this tour three years ago and had a great time. The First Mate (Misty, cute name) told us that these were the final few days for this boat, as it's been sold. A new boat called the Discovery takes its first voyage on Tuesday. We sailed past the Discovery and it's huge compared to the Manute`a! She also told us that, due to the waves, anybody who is susceptible to sea sickness may want to reconsider booking on a different night when the ocean is calmer. Nobody changed their mind.

It was a fun time, but the wind and higher seas made walking about the boat considerably more difficult for me. The stable larger Discovery will be welcome.

In the "it's a small world" department, two other folks on the boat have Minnesota ties; a young guy who lives in Hopkins, and a lady who lives in Wayzata but grew up on Branch Street in Duluth until the age of four or five. Neat!

After the cruise which included a great selection of pupus, we stopped at a store on our way back to the hotel and I purchase one final cap. We unwound, watch a few episodes of Dog The Bounty Hunter, and fell asleep sometime after 11:00.
