Hearts in Hawai'i

Our Trip to Hawai'i (2007)--Day 9

Duke's Canoe Club

Off early to Duke's Waikiki for their breakfast buffet. Again, what a fantastic setting this is! A railing table with the views I'd mentioned earlier, and a buffet featuring fruits, juices, sausages, breakfast potatoes, bacon, eggs benedict, made to order omelettes. At $15 per person, this was an outstanding choice.

Lei Day

It was Lei Day here in Hawaii--we had planned on seeing the Brothers Cazimero perform tonight at the Waikiki Shell but decided after more discussion to pass on this event.

I had a few things to buy at the Food Pantry on Kuhio Avenue, and if you think the prices are high at Foodland, prepare yourself for a real shock here. Prices are no doubt higher because of its convenient location in the middle of Waikiki. The only good thing you can say about the prices here is that they're lower than what ABC (All Blocks Covered, Auntie April claimed it stood for ) Stores charge.

The usual pattern of sun/pool/lunch/nap followed. Today happened to be my fifth smokefree birthday; as a former three-pack-a-day smoker, I'm amazed and somewhat in awe of this achievement...not to toot my own horn or anything, just saying...

California Pizza Kitchen

Later, we hopped on The Bus, bound for Ala Moana Mall and California Pizza Kitchen; dinner is on Patty tonight. Ironically, the best items on their menu have nothing to do with pizza. Their Grilled Sausage & Pepper Penne is one of the best pasta dishes I've found.

Following dinner, we strolled around Ala Moana Park and Magic Island. Deciding to forego the bus trip back to Waikiki, we walked all the way back to the hotel, which was a pretty good hike at well over two miles.

We're slightly down in spirits, knowing that tomorrow will be our final full day on Oahu, but considering we still have two weeks left on our vacation, I suppose it could be worse. I think we'll miss the excitement and activities of this island, but a large part of us is looking forward to more solitude and quiet which I'm sure we'll find on the Big Island and Maui.
