Hearts in Hawai'i

Our Trip to Hawai'i (2007)--Day 3

Aloha Flea Market & Dog the Bounty Hunter

Today found us once again rising early, starting the day with a nice in-room breakfast of eggs, sausages, toast and hash browns. Then we were off on the H-1 freeway to the Aloha Stadium swap meet, which is held each week on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. There were rows and rows of similar merchandise including pretty much the same shirts...over and over again. I bought nothing, but Patty found a bag of onion & garlic macadamia nuts for $7--yummy!

Aloha Stadium

Afterwards, we cruised into downtown Honolulu in search of Dog The Bounty Hunter's office on Queen Emma Street. It was easier to find than I had anticipated. We could see Wesley working inside; man, that's got to be a pain for him to have this many (several hundred a day, I was told) people stopping by to either look inside hoping to catch a glimpse of Duane "Dog" Chapman or get their picture taken in front of the place. Which was exactly what we did. A little store around the corner sold all kinds of Dog merchandise, but I wasn't drawn to black T-shirts, so I passed. Interesting place!

Me outside Da Kine Bail Bonds

After returning to the Queen Kapiolani before noon, I did some tanning out on the pooldeck. The lawnchair towel situation here was weird; you didn't get the towels at the pool (on the third floor) or in the lobby, instead having to walk down to the basement and find the commercial laundry room, where you were required to sign the towels out. Then you walked back up the stairs to the main lobby and used the escalator to the third floor. I'm not sure why the Queen Kap has it set up this way, but it seems it could have been handled better.

Cheesecake Factory

The Cheesecake Factory was our destination tonight for dinner. Don't let the name fool you; while they have a huge assortment of cheesecakes available for dessert, their dining menu options are huge; there is something there to please even the pickiest or most discriminating diner. I decided on the Jambalaya which was good but not great. Patty got a Chicken Caesar, which she really enjoyed. This is a relatively easy place for us to recommend unless you've been to one of their outlets, in case there's nothing new or special at this location.

Afterwards, we took another walk around Kapiolani Park, capping off another fun day.
